The City of Prince George is teaming up with the Northwest Invasive Plant Council to combat invasive weed species in the city.
On Monday, city council approved spending $18,300 to the non-profit organization to combat invasive weeds on the city’s land. The city partnered with the organization, which often hires individuals from D.A.R.T and AiMHi to do the field work, prior to budget cutbacks in 2020, city director of civic operations Blake McIntosh said.
“… I think it would be great to resume this,” Coun. Cori Ramsay said. “This is a small amount.”
Council authorized funding the partnership from council’s $75,000 contingency fund for 2023, and the funding will be included in future years’ budgets.
Coun. Trudy Klassen said partnering with the Northwest Invasive Plant Council provides “a really needed service,” at a low cost to the city.
“It seems like the responsible direction to go,” Coun. Garth Frizzell said.
