Environment Canada has lifted an air quality advisory for Prince George, but the agency is warning about unseasonably-hot temperatures this weekend.

Environment Canada has lifted an air quality advisory for Prince George, after smoke from wildfires east of the city has dissipated.

However, a special weather statement is in effect for Prince George and the Stuart-Nechako region regarding unseasonably-hot weather.

Daytime highs are expected in the low-to-mid-30s C throughout the central and southern interior of B.C., with highs in the mid-20s in the northern regions.

“The BC Interior will experience unseasonably hot weather beginning today. The highest temperatures are expected from Sunday through Tuesday,” the special weather statement says. “Daytime highs will be 10 to 15 degrees Celsius above seasonal values while overnight lows will be 5 to 10 degrees above what is normally experienced this time of year.”

While it is possible that daily temperature records may be broken, “it must be emphasized that the expected hot conditions will not approach those reached during the ‘Heat Dome’ of late June 2021,” the statement says.

Higher temperatures are also expected to increase runoff from melting snow, creating the potential for local flooding.
