A popular backcountry escape for Prince George residents is hoping for colder days ahead.
According to the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club, the trails at Otway are less-than-ideal for public use as a result of Spring-like weather causing poor conditions.
Rain started to come down at 5 a.m. this morning (Jan. 12), the local club explains, and said it lasted for at least an hour.
"We will not be grooming anything today," says a statement on social media.
"We strongly advise against skiing at all today, both for the health of our trails, as well as our safety. Conditions are likely to change from wet/mushy to icy throughout the whole day. We're due to get a freeze up overnight, so we will try our best to grind it up in the morning."
As of this publication, Environment Canada's forecast is calling for a 60 per cent chance of showers this evening before clearing up overnight.
This is likely to cause the temperature to fall from -5 C to -9 C with winds gusting up to 40 km/h.
Wednesday (Jan. 13) could see sunny skies but the mercury will hover around -8 C with winds continuing to gust between 20 and 40 km/h.

Elsewhere, the Hart Ski Hill is temporarily closing its facility, also citing the wet weather causing some problems for maintaining ideal conditions.
It hopes to be open by 4 p.m. later today.
The Prince George Outdoor Ice Oval has been closed since Sunday (Jan. 10) with the warm weather also leading to low-optimal skating conditions.
There's no update on when the 400-metre ice facility potentially re-open.
As of yesterday (Jan. 11), Purden Ski Village is closed until Friday (Jan. 15), though it's not clear if the current weather is a factor.
