Prince George has seen a fairly large increase in the number of referendum ballots returned since last Friday.
On Nov. 16, Prince George-Mackenzie sat at 10.7 per cent with 3,547 votes cast out of a registered 33,083 voters while Prince George-Valemount was at 11.3 per cent with 3,919 ballots cast out of a registered 34,573 voters.
According to the updated numbers released by Elections BC Friday (Nov. 23), Prince George-Mackenzie is at 19 per cent (6,282 ballots out of 33,075) and Prince George-Valemount isn't far behind at 18.9 per cent (6,531 ballots out of 34,607).
The numbers do not include packages that have been received by Canada Post and have not been sent to Elections BC.
Overall, the province has sent in 980,000 packages (roughly 30 per cent).
Elections BC announced on Friday it was extending the voting deadline from Nov. 30 to Dec. 7 because of the Canada Post strike.
