Prince George recall hopes dimming with loss in Oak Bay-Gordon Head

A lead organizer of the past summer's local anti-HST initiative is casting doubt on the chances of launching a recall campaign in Prince George after learning the initiative to oust a Vancouver Island Liberal MLA has failed.

Eric Allen, who played a key role in the local signature-gathering efforts that have led to the referendum on the issue, somewhat backed away from a vow made during a rally in September to launch a recall campaign against Prince George-Mackenzie MLA Pat Bell this spring.

The loss in Oak Bay-Gordon Head is a blow and if efforts in Comox Valley and Kamloops-North Thompson are unsuccessful, it's over, Allen acknowledged.

"We have to be realistic," he said Friday. "If they can't do it in those three ridings that are probably the easiest three ridings in B.C., then we can't do it here."
