Prince George RCMP has recently received reports of counterfeit currency from retailers in the city.
Police point to U.S. $50 bills as the primary denomination being passed.
Although it’s yet to be confirmed, police say these incidents are similar to a string of reports in Alberta, Saskatchewan and B.C.'s southern interior.
As such, retailers in Prince George and throughout the province are encouraged to use extra caution when receiving American currency as payment.
For more information, and to learn more about identifying both Canadian and American counterfeit currency, you can visit the Bank of Canada’s website.
Mounties say more information will be provided as it comes available.
Anyone with more information about these incidents, or the persons responsible, is asked to contact Prince George RCMP at 250-561-3300, anonymously call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.pgcrimestoppers.bc.ca.
