Prince George RCMP looking for suspect in catalytic converter theft

Suspect may be associated with a white Chevrolet Silverado

Prince George RCMP are looking to identify a suspect in the theft of a catalytic converter from a parked vehicle.

On Feb. 8 shortly before 8 a.m. police received a report of a stolen catalytic converter off a vehicle parked on the 700 block of Kinsmen Place. The theft occurred between 3:30 a.m. and 4 a.m. that morning.

Investigators from the Prince George RCMP’s Street Crew Unit reviewed video surveillance and identified a possible suspect and a vehicle of interest in the file.

Police are looking for a Caucasian male, approximately six feet tall, in his mid-to-late twenties.

He may be associated with a white, newer model Chevrolet Silverado with aftermarket wheels and rims. If you recognize this man or this truck, please call the non-emergency line at 250-561-3300 to speak with police, states Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, media spokesperson for the Prince George RCMP.

Police are also offering suggestions to help deter catalytic converter thefts:

  • Park in a secure garage or compound when possible. Otherwise, park in a well-lit and populated area.
  • Park so it is difficult to access under your car, such as against a wall or closer to lower vehicles.
  • Install a product (such as a wire cage or alarm) designed to prevent catalytic converter theft.
  • Park vehicles left at businesses overnight in a locked, fenced area.
  • Install motion sensor lighting and good quality security cameras.

The RCMP are also asking residents to consider registering their home or business surveillance system with the City of Prince George’s CCTV registry which can be done online at www.princegeorge.ca/cctv.

If you have any information about this or any other criminal offense, please contact the Prince George RCMP at 250-561-3300 or anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.northernbccrimestoppers.ca.
