Prince George RCMP are investigating a townhouse fire on Oak Street they believe to be arson.

Just before 2 a.m. on May 11 police responded to reports of a fire coming from a new townhouse complex on the 2500 block of Oak Street.

Upon arrival frontline members could see a package on the rear door of one of the units, which appeared to be where the fire was coming from.

Prince George Fire Rescue attended the complex and extinguished the fire, noting that the fire was contained to the exterior of the building. However, as the units are currently under construction, investigators are treating this as an act of arson.

Police say that there’s no evidence to suggest this is related to any other current fire investigations.

“Frontline members spoke to people who were in the area that night and the Investigative Services Team later canvassed houses in the area for surveillance. Police are asking that anyone who has not been spoken to or was in the area of Oak Street and Diefenbaker Drive on the night of May 11, between midnight and 3 a.m., to contact police if they witnessed anything suspicious or that may be related to this investigation,” states Cst. Jennifer Cooper of the Prince George RCMP.

“Anyone driving in the area who may have dashcam footage from that timeframe is also asked to contact police.”
