The front counter at the Prince George RCMP detachment was reopened to the public on Tuesday.

It had been closed to all non-essential services for about two months in answer to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Such services as police information checks and fingerprinting are now available through the front counter, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

At the same time, the detachment is abiding by social distancing guidelines and has signs and markers in place to direct clients when they enter the building.

"All staff have access to personal protective equipment (PPE) and depending on the service required, may provide clients with PPE," RCMP said. "These actions are being taken in an effort to limit public contact with our staff due to the COVID-19 crisis."

Anyone with COVID-19 symptoms are asked not to attend the detachment in person and to call 250-561-3300 for service or information.

RCMP will continue to respond to calls for service as usual. In an emergency, call 911. To report a non-emergent incident, people are asked to avoid attending the detachment in person and instead call 250-561-3300.

To report a less serious incident of property-related crime you're urged to use the online crime reporting tool, available through the Prince George RCMP website.
