The Prince George RCMP’s Municipal Traffic Services Unit stopped about 1,000 vehicles on May 22 at three different check-stop locations in the city.

This was a part of an ongoing campaign to take impaired drivers off the roads. Sgt. Kyle Ushock, commander of the Municipal Traffic Services Unit said four traffic members were out on Saturday night speaking with drivers and checking for a variety of driving offences in addition to checking for sober drivers.

Here are some of the reasons police removed vehicles from the road that night:

  • Three 90 Day Immediate Roadside Prohibitions
  • Two excessive speed impoundments
  • One 24 hour suspension for alcohol
  • Four drivers without a driver’s license
  • Three vehicles without insurance
  • One unlicensed prohibited driver

Members also issued tickets for the following Motor Vehicle Act violations:

  • Four drive contrary to restrictions tickets
  • One drive without due care ticket
  • Two speeding tickets
  • One fail to produce insurance ticket
  • Two fail to display “L” ticket
  • One Fail to state name to police ticket
  • One fail to provide Driver’s License upon request ticket

As May is high-risk driving awareness month, the Prince George RCMP is reminding the public that crashes involving alcohol and drugs are a leading criminal cause of death in Canada.
