Prince George RCMP have arrested a driver following witness reports of a suspected impaired motorcycle driver.

On Monday May 1, shortly after 6 p.m., witnesses told police they were following a motorcycle towards Prince George on Highway 16 East, which was travelling well under the speed limit and the driver was swerving in the lane.

“The investigation led police officers to a residence on the 2900-block of Highway 16 East where they located the suspect, who was found to be unlicensed. During the subsequent arrest of the suspect, one of the police officers was assaulted,” states Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP.

The driver was arrested without further incident and released with a future court date.

The police officer was not seriously injured in the altercation. Impaired driving is a leading cause of car crash fatalities in B.C. and police say if you think you see an impaired driver on the road, make sure to contact your local police to report it.

Prince George RCMP have provided some tips for reporting an impaired driver:

  • Make and model of vehicle
  • Last known direction of travel
  • License plate, if visible
  • Description of driver
  • Description of driving behaviour

Prince George RCMP will continue to target high-risk driving behaviour during the summer months.
