Lifting heavy things may not be your forte, but it sure is for dozens of dedicated athletes who are looking forward to competing next month in Prince George.
For the second year in a row, the Canadian Powerlifting Federation (CPF) is bringing the country’s biggest cash meet back to B.C.’s northern capital set for Saturday, June 22, 2019.
The Canadian Open’s initial payout was $7,500 in cash to give away, but has since grown to over $8,000, which will be divided among the winners of each discipline hosted by X-conditioning and Active Body Fitness.
The categories are men’s equipped (contestants can wear specific equipment while attempting a lift), men’s classic raw, women’s classic raw and full power.
And that’s just the morning session!
There were 65 powerlifters from across the province at the Canadian Open last year, which had a Pro-Am theme as well, and close to half were from Prince George.
Local winners were Mike Webber (men’s equipped, $2,500) and his wife Tara Webber (women’s raw, $2,500).
In the afternoon session, the competition will be open to all lifters for prizes in the same disciplines plus push-pull and bench-only.
