Now that the public sector strike has been settled, a full slate of federal services is offered at the Service Canada office in downtown Prince George.
But the wait for passport services will continue for another two weeks.
Originally set for April 25, the long-awaited opening of the Prince George passport office at 1363 Fourth Ave., will be delayed until Wednesday, May 17.
When it opens, the office will provide 10-day service for travelers, serving travelers from Prince George and northern B.C., who will no longer have to arrange for their international travel documents from Vancouver unless they require urgent or emergency passport service.
The 12-day Public Service Alliance of Canada strike that resulted in 120,0000 workers walking off their jobs April 19 ended Monday when the union signed a tentative deal with the federal government that calls for an 11.5 per cent wage increase over four years.
“Now that the strike is over, we are focused on getting things back to normal,” said Philippe-Alexandre Langlois, press secretary for the Ministry of Families, Children and Social Development.
”That said, we are expediting the opening of the 10-day services in Prince George, which is on track to launch on May 17.”
