Prince George Observatory open house to showcase supernovae

Dress warmer than usual as the observatory is about six degrees colder than the temperature in the city.

The Prince George Observatory is hosting an open house Friday the 13th at 7:30 p.m.

The Prince George Astronomical Society (PGAS) now known as the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada Prince George Centre will focus the open house presentation on supernovae by Malhar Kendurkar, the society's president, and a viewing will follow depending on the weather.

So hope for clear skies.

The observatory is at 7365 Tedford Rd

PGAS joined the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada so changed their name to reflect that but are still the same non-profit organization operated and maintained by volunteers dedicated to the advancement of astronomy and science in Prince George and its neighbouring communities.

If you can’t make it out this Friday, there are two more Friday night open houses Jan. 20 at 7:30 p.m. and the topic of discussion will the constellation Orion, while on Jan. 27 at 7:30 p.m. there is another open house with the topic of discussion yet to be announced.
