The B.C. College of Nurses and Midwives has suspended a Prince George registered nurse for two months for administering an intravenous medication and a blood product without supervision.

Robert Harris was also prohibited from practising in high-acuity, stepdown, or critical care environments for two years, prohibited from being the sole RN on duty or being in charge and providing regulatory oversight to students or new learners for one year, prohibited from assuming in-charge duties for six months, subjected to direct supervision for 144 hours and ordered to develop a learning plan to be shared with his employer and the BCCNM.

The infractions occurred between July and November 2022 and were related to "knowledge-based practice, inadequate documentation, unsafe medication and blood product administration, communication of patient detail, and professional accountability," according to a posting on the BCCNM website.

The penalties were issued in the form of a consent agreement that a BCCNM inquiry committee panel approved on Wednesday and after Harris voluntarily agreed to the terms.

"The Inquiry Committee is satisfied that the terms will protect the public," BCCNM said in the posting.
