Prince George now home to qualified heat pump installer

Up to $9,000 in rebates available for converting to the technology

Heat pumps are a common sight at the Urban Aboriginal Community on Bowser Avenue.

Prince George homeowners can now turn to a certified installer of heat pumps - and cash in on the breaks and rebates that come with getting one installed.

HVAC Strong Mechanical Ltd. is now listed on the Better Homes B.C. website as registered contractor for the technology.

"Working with a registered contractor means you are working with someone that is trained in industry best practices and is subject to ongoing quality assurance evaluations," Better Homes B.C. says.

Depending on the type of heat pump, a homeowner can qualify for as much as $9,000 in rebates, thanks in part to the so-called "northern offer" for homes located north of and including the District of 100 Mile House. They must also be connected to the BC Hydro electric service and currently rely on fossil fuel for their heating.

Conversion to heat pumps is being encouraged as a way to reduce the amount of greenhouse gas emitted by homes in B.C. They're being promoted as a viable alternative to air conditioning in the summer and to heating based on fossil fuels in the winter.

Programs for upgrading insulation and windows and doors, securing further rebates based on income and low-interest financing can also be found at the website.
