Darryl Woods of Prince George has won a $5-million grand prize, which he described as “amazing” and “life-changing.”

On April 23, he matched all six numbers in the Lotto 6/49 draw. He discovered his win the following morning when he scanned his ticket using the BC Lottery Corporation (BCLC) Lotto App.

Woods said he was overwhelmed when the winning numbers appeared on the screen, telling BCLC that his body was “vibrating” for hours.

“I thought, ‘This can’t be real.’ I had to check it three times to be sure, and once I realized the amount, I couldn’t stop vibrating until that afternoon,” he said in a BCLC news release.

Woods said he was most excited to tell his brother, whom he woke at 7 a.m. to share the news of his windfall.

Aside from immediate family, no one else knew about Woods’s win until Tuesday, April 29, when he called a few friends during his drive to BCLC’s Kamloops office to claim his prize.

According to BCLC, Woods has a few ideas for spending his $5 million, including possibly buying a classic car or a truck. However, he said he’s most looking forward to gifting a large portion of his winnings to his siblings and children.

Woods bought the winning ticket at Shah Brothers Convenience Store on Westwood Drive in Prince George.

So far in 2025, BC lottery players have redeemed more than $16 million in winnings from Lotto 6/49.
