A 20-year-old Prince George man is being held by police in connection with the murder of a teenage girl from Fraser Lake.
A police check of a suspicious vehicle north of Vanderhoof on Saturday evening led to the discovery of the body of a murdered 15-year-old girl from Fraser Lake.
At about 10 p.m. Saturday Nov. 27 when RCMP officers from Fort St. James and Vanderhoof were meeting to exchange some items, the Fort St. James officer noticed a pickup truck turning onto Highway 27 from an older unused logging road located about 22 km north of Vanderhoof.
Given the time of night and area from which the vehicle had emerged, the Fort St. James officer considered it suspicious and pulled the truck over, said Cpl. Dan Moskaluk, South East and North
senior media relations officer.
The 20-year-old Prince George driver and lone occupant of the vehicle was identified and detained while the office requested assistance of conservation officer to conduct a search of the area.
"On his arrival, the conservation officer followed the vehicle tracks back into the area from which it had emerged. The area with fresh snow cover was undisturbed by little else, if anything but the truck which had been stopped by the officer.
"As the CSO examined the area he located the lifeless body of the teenage girl at around 11:50
p.m. a distance away from the side road.
"The state of the young girl indicated she had been murdered just hours before the man's arrest," said Cpl. Dan Moskaluk .
The driver remains in police custody and officers have secured the scene. The cause of death is not being released at this time.
"RCMP North District Major Crimes Unit is conducting the investigation and continue to offer assistance and support to the family of the young girl via RCMP victim services" added Cpl. Dan Moskaluk
