Seniors and those with disabilities now have another option to get around town, thanks to a Prince George man.

Brett McLachlan worked in the IT/technology sector for numerous years, but decided to switch gears to 'what his heart desired' and has brought a Driving Miss Daisy franchise location to the city.

Driving Miss Daisy is a service dedicated to helping disabled residents and seniors with tasks such as appointments, shopping, errands and other services.

"I had investigated Driving Miss Daisy several years ago while looking for a career change. I was searching for something meaningful to me," McLachlan said in his website biography, who will be the local owner and operator.

"Driving Miss Daisy was the answer. I love having the opportunity to give something back to our community while fulfilling my desire to help others and stay active!"

All Driving Miss Daisy staff possess:

  • Approved background checks
  • Clean drivers abstracts
  • CPR/First Aid certification
  • Legislated automobile insurance
  • Commercial general liability insurance
  • Commercial Accessible Parking Permits
  • A friendly, caring attitude

Driving Miss Daisy is an Alberta-based operation that started on Jan. 1, 2002.

As of September 2017, it's expanded close to 50 locations that operate more than 70 vehicles at the time.

McLachlan was born and raised in Prince George and has been married to his wife for 25 years, and have two children both working locally.

"I am looking forward to meeting new people and sharing stories of their lives and mine in our daily adventures — together."

Driving services he provides include:

  • Medical, dental and eye appointments
  • Personal appointments (hair, nails, etc.)
  • Shopping of all types
  • Errands around town
  • Assistance to adult day programs
  • Transportation to the airport
  • Accompaniment

His vehicle can accommodate wheelchairs as well as walkers when the client is able to self-transfer.

Hours of operation are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.; appointments can also be made outside of those regularly-scheduled hours.

Accepted forms of payment are cash, cheque, credit card and E-Transfer, and those interested can contact Brett for pricing and information at 250-961-5026 or by email at [email protected].

Service in Prince George will officially launch on Nov. 1.
