A 55-year-old Prince George man was killed early Tuesday morning when the semi truck he was driving rolled over on Highway 97 near 150 Mile House.

Williams Lake RCMP, who were called to the scene at 4:38 a.m., said he was trapped inside the truck which was hauling corrosive chemicals and smoking from the rear of the trailer.

A fire department hazardous materials team and Williams Lake Search and Rescue extracted the man but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 100-metre containment area had been implemented until a Ministry of Environment emergency response officer from Kamloops arrived and determined the area was safe for emergency personnel.

"At this time, there is no evidence to suggest any type of hazardous spill," Williams Lake RCMP said.

The highway remained closed until 10:15 a.m. and, as of 4 p.m., Likely Road remained closed as RCMP gathered evidence.

Anyone who saw the incident is asked to call Williams Lake RCMP at 250-392-6211.
