A Prince George man is expected to be tried for five days in Provincial Court on three firearms charges.
Michael David Petrie, a Tsay Keh Dene Nation member born in 1971, appeared on Monday, Dec. 9 before Judge Karina Sacca in Provincial Court in Duncan. Petrie is facing two counts of possession of a firearm contrary to an order and possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition in relation to an incident on Jan. 28 of this year in Lake Cowichan.
Sacca adjourned Petrie’s case to Dec. 10, but the accused is not required to attend the procedural hearing due to being homeless, court heard.
The online court registry shows a pretrial conference is scheduled for Jan. 29, 2025 at Surrey Provincial Court. The Crown case against Petrie would be about three days, with two days for the defence.
Sacca heard that Petrie will plead not guilty and he is electing to be tried in Provincial Court.
