Prince George narrowly lost to Kelowna in this year's Canadian Blood Services' Interior Drive for Life.
Over the course of the eight-week event, 1,141 people donated blood at the local clinic, putting Prince George at 99 per cent of its target of 1,152.
However, Kelowna collected 1,825 blood donations, which was 101 per cent of their target of 1,792.
Both cities fell short of their targets for new donors. Prince George had set out to attract 230 new donors and welcomed 152 and at 298 donors, Kelowna fell short of its goal of 368.
"Prince George residents were formidable opponents during this year's contest and deserve strong praise for rolling up their sleeves to meet the current and ongoing need for blood," said CBS Prince George territory manager Amy Erickson.
"We take our hats off to Kelowna residents for retaining the blood drive title and for their amazing show of support for hospital patients."
Erickson urged local residents to continue to book appointments to donate blood through the holiday season at blood.ca, using the GiveBlood app, or by calling 1-888 2 DONATE (1-888-236-6283).
