The Prince George Legion's Remembrance Day ceremony on Nov. 11 will be broadcast on television once again this year due to pandemic restrictions.

The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 43 is looking at another augmented Remembrance Day celebration as it follows Covid-19 safety protocols.

“The Legion is committed to creating a safe and memorable Remembrance Day ceremony - we know how meaningful the event is to our members and the general public,” Margaret Goings, branch president, said. “The 2021 ceremony will take place outdoors at the Cenataph in front of city hall.”

The public is asked to view the ceremony through the Legion’s broadcast partner CKPG-TV, that will live stream the ceremony on CKPGToday.ca and on television from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

It will re-run on both platforms at 3 to 4 p.m. and 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

There are a variety of Remembrance events taking place in the city leading up to November 11:

October 29 at 10 a.m. - the launch of the poppy campaign takes place at the Cenataph.

Poppies will be available by donation at locations throughout the city.

New for 2021 is the touchless HSBC Pay Tribute tap-enabled donation boxes.

2021 marks the 100th anniversary of the poppy as a symbol of remembrance.

The Legion will have special edition keepsake poppies available for sale at the branch office.

October 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Scouts will be at the Prince George cemetery installing flags on the graves of veterans.

November 11 at 11 a.m. is the official Remembrance Day ceremony that includes remarks of welcome, wreath laying, reading of Flanders Fields and two minutes of silence.

The Prince George Legion was formed in 1926 and has been providing services to veterans and their families in Prince George for 95 years.

The Royal Canadian Legion is committed to ensuring Canadians never forget.

Through these programs and events everyone remembers and offers thanks to those who served and sacrificed for our country.
