Prince George RCMP investigating alleged attempted robbery with a hammer

RCMP say one man struck in the head after refusing to give up cellphone

Mounties in Prince George are investigating after an attempted robbery near 17th Avenue. 

On Oct. 8, at 9:30 a.m., police received an urgent call to attend to the intersection of 17th Avenue and Larch Street. 

When officers arrived, they found two adult males, one which was suffering from an apparent injury to the head. 

RCMP say they believe the two men were walking on 17th Avenue when a single male wearing a mask approached them and demanded their cellphones. 

Both men refused and the alleged suspect produced what appeared to be a hammer. 

One victim was struck on the head before the suspect fled on foot empty-handed. 

The suspect has not been found. The injured man was transported to the hospital and later released. 

The suspect is described as: 

  • Caucasian male 
  • 20 to 30 years of age 
  • Wearing a red jacket, loose black pants and a mask covering his face

The investigation is ongoing. 

Police are also reminding the public that when situations such as this arise, to cooperate with the suspect. Items such as phones can be replaced police say, while lives cannot.
