Prince George Ice Oval melting for the year due to warm temperatures

If you were thinking of hitting the ice oval one last time this year, you are out of luck as the ducks have arrived.

Due to increasing temperatures, it was announced the Prince George Outdoor Ice Oval was closed yesterday (March 14).

Dick Voneugen says this year, the oval saw a record of 58 straight days open from Jan. 15 to March 13. 

Statistics for this season are as follows: 

  • First day open: Dec. 8, 2018
  • Last day open: March 13, 2019
  • Total season: 96 days
  • Open: 75 days
  • Closed: 21 days
  • Skater visits: 12,525
  • Visits per day: 167
