With one month of calculations left to go in the year, Prince George has already beaten its building permit record.

The year-to-date total for 2022 so far is 453 permits totalling $249,080,873.22

In all 12 months of 2021, the city issued 467 building projects for a combined $247.6 million, so 2022 November’s total has already surpassed the record set in 2021.

For the month of November specifically, the city has issued 40 permits totalling $18,557,838.25.

During the month of November last year, the city only saw 29 permits representing $13,809,699.00.

“This is a big one,” said Coun. Garth Frizzell during the Dec. 19 city council meeting.

“We are that close to cracking $250 million dollars. This is staggering and record breaking and it is a continuation of what we have been seeing for the last decade here in Prince George.”

Frizzell said the city is continuing to see a lot of growth and asked administration if this trend would continue into the new year.

“I predict more of the same given that this November and the current month December, not having those stats in front of us tonight, but also understanding that they haven’t stopped. So, I would expect even through these winter months and the development season it should continue into 2023,” said director of planning and development, Deanna Wasnik.

In 2020 the city issued 532 permits worth $219 million, 611 permits worth $223.5 million in 2019 and 515 permits worth $186.7 million in 2018.

Between 2017 and 2021, the city issued a total of $985 million in building permits.

The final total of building permits issued in 2022 will be available early in 2023.
