A local car dealership has made a large donation to one of the biggest supports to those fighting cancer in Prince George and the northern region.

Prince George Ford has given $15,000 to the Canadian Cancer Society's new Peace of Mind Campaign, aimed at helping those financially with cancer so their worries can lessen and focus on recovery.

The donation is specifically going to the Kordyban Lodge in Prince George.

The Peace of Mind Campaign is hoping to reduce the nightly fee at the lodge from $54 to $20 per guest.

"Prince George Ford nominated the Kordyban Lodge as some of the employees have a personal connection to this important charity," said Chris Wall, General Manager of the dealership in a news release.

"The services provided by the Kordyban Lodge are so important to the lives of the patients in their care, and their families. We are so happy to be able to donate this $15,000 and hope this helps make this care that much easier."

Marilyn Heaton is one of those who have been able to receive help from the lodge.

She was diagnosed in 2013 with aggressive breast cancer and started on a journey through a demanding time, physically and emotionally, with surgery and chemotherapy.

The lodge was where she began healing.

"The staff and the sereneness of the place just promotes healing,” she added in the release.

“I was so worn out when I arrived and everyone said I’d be so tired when I finished radiation, but I was actually starting to recover and get my energy back because they looked after me so well and I was able to rest. All my meals were made and everything is done. And people really care."

"I can’t say enough nice things. Kordyban Lodge is dynamite.”

The society says donations like Ford's $15,000 cheque are crucial to them helping reach its goal and are able to help those in immediate need of help.

"By reaching our goal with this campaign, we can significantly reduce the financial pressure on northern residents,” said Aimee Cassie, Canadian Cancer Society Annual Giving Officer.

“Donations like this one from Prince George Ford go a long way to reaching our goal, and directly impact lives at a time when people need it most.”
