Voters are scheduled to head to the polls on Sept. 20, 2021.

As Sept. 20 nears, the candidates running in the federal election in both Prince George ridings will be tackling issues in an all-candidates Zoom debate.

The debate will take place on Monday, Sept. 13 and is hosted by the Prince George Chamber of Commerce, the Prince George Citizen and the Northern Real Estate Board.

Gary Wilson, political science department chair at the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) will be moderating the debates.

“It's going to be held on Zoom just  to avoid any issues with health orders,” said Chamber CEO Todd Corrigall.

The Prince George-Peace River-Northern Rockies riding will take place first from 7 to 8 p.m. followed by the Cariboo-Prince George riding from 8:10 to 9:10 p.m.

“Between all the partners we've created a list of questions that were currently finalizing and vetting through,” explained Corrigall. “Each candidate will get a minimum of two questions directly to them but every candidate will have an opportunity to provide their own feedback on each of those questions.”

The link to access the Zoom is available on the Chamber’s website.

“We are recording both sessions and they will be both available,” said Corrigall, adding the recordings will be posted to the Chamber and the Citizen’s websites as well as through social media.

“We certainly hope people will tune in, or take time to view the debates at their leisure before they go to the polls.”

Advance polls will also run from Sept. 10 to 13 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Election Day is Sept. 20 and polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

If you did not receive a voter information card in the mail, which tells you where and when to vote,  you can register to vote online through Elections Canada until Sept. 14. or in person at any Elections Canada office.

You can also register at your assigned polling station on election day or advanced polling days. To register to vote you must be a Canadian citizen, be at least 18-years-old on election day, and prove your identity and address.
