The Prince George Farmers' Market is expanding for the winter season.
To keeps things rolling at full speed, the market will also be hosting more vendors in the Hubspace right across the street.
The Prince George Farmers' Market is a year-round market with a permanent indoor location on Third Avenue. In the summer and fall, the outdoor portion of the market takes over all of Quebec Street from Third Avenue to Second Avenue.
“There are a lot of vendors that would like to vend year-round but we can’t cram all of those vendors that are outside into that building. Pretty much only a few have spots reserved in the inside for winter and the rest of the vendors are out of luck because we don’t have space.”
Now every Saturday throughout the winter months, the farmers' market will also have vendors set up in the Hubspace from 8:30 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Located at 1299 Third Ave., the Hubspace is a co-working and event space operated by the Innovation Central Society.
“We are hoping traffic from the other market building will venture over there and check out the other vendors,” says Holmes. “We have to make sure the traffic is there so the vendors are making decent sales to make it worth their while.”
Holmes says they are also looking for more vendors who want to sell their goods in the new winter season indoor space.
“Our goal is to have at least 10 vendors in there every Saturday; it might not always be the same vendors, but it would be nice to have 10 regular vendors and any other occasional vendors would add onto that,” he tells PrinceGeorgeMatters. “Our hope is to get as many vendors as we can.”
To launch the new expansion, the Prince George Farmers' Market is having a grand opening on Saturday, Oct. 27 at the Hubspace where they will have over 100 pumpkins for a pumpkin giveaway. Free coffee, tea and cookies will be available between 8:30 and 10:30 a.m.
