A cyclist was transported to hospital yesterday afternoon (April 22) following a collision with a pick-up truck.
At about 4:14 p.m. Prince George RCMP received a report of a collision between a bicycle and a pick-up truck at the intersection of Massey Drive and Winnipeg Street, and 20th Avenue and Carney Street.
Frontline officers and emergency services attended the scene immediately.
The 23-year-old male Prince George cyclist was transported to hospital in critical condition, while the 21-year-old male pickup truck diver remained on scene without injuries.
Investigators believe that the driver of the pickup proceeded northbound through a fresh green light after stopping for the red light, while the eastbound cyclist proceeded through the fresh red light, colliding with the pick-up.
The intersection was closed for a period of time while officers investigated.
Police say they would like to remind cyclists that the Motor Vehicle Act laws apply to them and that they must obey traffic control devices and this incident should be a reminder to drivers to check left and right before entering intersections, even on a green light.
