Prince George COVID-19 cases increasing amid provincial infection surge

While B.C.'s daily caseload numbers continue to sit at an average of 1,000 per day, Prince George is also seeing an increase. 

According to the latest Geographic Distribution of COVID-19 by Local Health Area of Case Residence released by the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC), Prince George saw 70 new infections from April 4 to 10, 2021.

Last month, numbers remained in the 30s to low 50s. 

Also in the north, Peace River South continues to see the highest case numbers in the region, sitting at 118 in the same timeframe. 

The province once again topped more than 1,000 recorded cases in a single day count yesterday (April 14) with 1,168. 

As of this publication (April 15) , there are currently 9,821 active cases throughout B.C. with 397 people in hospital, 120 of which are admitted in ICU or critical care. 

Northern Health's total since March 14, 2020, currently stands at 6,621 with 24 people currently hospitalized across the region, eight of which are in critical care or ICU. 

The BCCDC says 132 lives have been lost due to the virus in the north.
