After 10 years in business, Ohh Chocolat Café has to temporarily close down their shop because of ongoing construction in the area.
The café is located at 565 George St. right next to the Park House Condo development. With the condos currently under construction, the corner of George Street and Sixth Avenue is closed off which has reduced accessibility and foot traffic in the area.
Ohh Chocolat Café posted a video called "Our Future" to their Facebook page on Oct. 17 explaining the decision.
“What we have decided to do is focus on what is really working at this point, which is our catering company which is flying off the handle,” says owner Caroline Longhurst in the video.
In September, Ohh Chocolat Café’s Sweet Sassy Savory Catering Company was named catering company of the year in the Prince George Citizen's Readers Choice Awards.
“So we are going to restructure what we are doing at Ohh Chocolat Café and we are going to partner up with many people around Prince George.”
Serengeti International Grocery Store, which is located across the street from the café, will be carrying Ohh Chocolat chocolates and the chocolates will be available through Ohh Chocolat’s online store.
“We are going to be using the space a lot for events and meeting and luncheons, so we are still in this location with Sweet Sassy Savory Catering Company; we will still be feeding a lot of people, you just won’t be able to come in and grab a cup of coffee and sit down for a while,” says Longhurst.
“The road we have to travel coming up for me is exciting,” she says. “We are not going anywhere, we will come to you, basically that’s the message at this point.”
