It’s time for city council to sit down and talk about the budget. Council will begin its 2021 budget deliberations on Monday, Jan. 25, at 3:30 p.m.

Although it is customary for Council to provide opportunities for members of the public to attend in-person and provide input on the budget during each budget meeting because of COVID-19 that can’t happen in the same way this year.

The ongoing public health restrictions preclude public attendance at the budget meetings. Nevertheless, council is providing opportunities for the public to provide written or verbal input about the budget via email, hand-delivered letter, or telephone.

Written submissions can be emailed to cityclerk@princegeorge.ca or dropped off at the Service Centre on the ground floor of City Hall.

The deadline is 12:00  p.m., Monday, Jan. 25. Input about the 2021 budget can also be provided over the telephone but residents are encouraged to pre-register if they wish to address council over the phone.

You can look over the agenda, which includes a budget and finance reference guide prior to the meeting. It is available on the city’s website.

These opportunities are in addition to a budget survey and Talktober town hall that were hosted by the City in the fall to gain public input about 2021 budget priorities. A summary of the information received from the public will be provided to Council at the beginning of the first budget meeting.

The budget meetings will also be livestreamed via the city’s website.
