For the first time in five years, BMX Canada was back in Prince George this past weekend and had a strong showing.
More than 250 riders descended on the Rolling Mix Concrete Supertrak in Carrie Jane Grey Park for the Northern Lights Nationals, a three-day all-age competition part of the governing body’s circuit across North America.
Five Prince George racers crossed the finish line first to capture a gold medal in the National races on Saturday (Aug. 24) and Sunday (Aug. 25), with two completing that task twice in front of family and friends.
Those two racers were brothers Levi and Carson Hill, who went double gold at the 12 and 14 intermediate levels respectively.
The three other first-place trophy winners were Mason Schwartz (6 intermediate), Cash Caron (6 novice), and Vance Cleave (8 novice), who also earned a silver in Saturday’s race.
Brady Anderson was the lone Prince George product to compete in the ‘Pro’ races, the highest of all the levels of competition, finishing with a bronze medal on Saturday and settling for a seventh-place spot on Sunday.
Altogether, local BMX riders collected almost 50 pieces of hardware from the two days of Nationals-designated racing, including 10 multi-medal winners.
