The Pride crosswalk is under construction Tuesday morning at Seventh Avenue and Canada Games Way, a rather poignant reminder of the massacre that took place at the Pulse night club in Orlando, Florida early Sunday morning. It has been determined to be the most deadly mass shooting by a single gunman in U.S. history and the most deadly act of violence against the LGBT community in U.S. history.

Prince George city council approved the pride walk at an April meeting, opting for a $3,000 zebra-style approach over a $6,000 option.

At the time Coun. Brian Skakun said "I think it is important for us to recognize this community."

After council made the move Valentine Crawford, the former president of Pride PG, said it's important colourful marker of acceptance are visible.

"Having a permanent symbol in our community is a validation and recognition that we are there, that Prince George is a safe place and a place for LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) families to put root."
