Prevention of Violence Against Women Week

The week of April 19 has been declared by the Prince George Mayor and city council Prevention of Violence Against Women Week. The last week of April has been declared Prevention of Violence Against Women Week in the city since 1995.

The events are hosted by the Prince George and District Elizabeth Fry Society, Phoenix Transition Society, John Howard Society, CNC Northern Women's Forum and a subcommittee of Prince George Violence Against Women in Relationships committee.

On April 19 a video by Jackson Katz called Wrestling with Manhood will be shown at CNC in Room 1-306.

On April 20 the Hazel White Community Appreciation Luncheon will be held to honour those who make a difference in the Prince George community.

On April 21 the John Howard Society will host an open house from noon to 1 p.m.

On April 22 the UNBC Women's Centre and Hadih House will host an open house from noon to 1 p.m.

On April 23 the Phoenix Transition House and Elizabeth Fry main office will host an open house.

On April 24 the annual Flower Ceremony will take place at Cottonwood Island Park boat launch at 1 p.m. where flowers will be released to symbolize those women affected by violence.
