Prince George Citizen press operators, working with a local machinist, were fixing The Citizen's press this morning, working towards having the press operating by mid-afternoon to print Thursday's edition and then the Friday print edition later tonight.

A mechanical breakdown that could not be repaired late Wednesday night led to The Citizen's Thursday edition not being published on time and delivered to local homes and retail outlets.

"Thanks to our advertisers and readers for their patience as we fix this problem," publisher Colleen Sparrow said. "Our press has served us well for 57 years - more than half of The Citizen's existence - and what happened Wednesday was a freak breakdown that couldn't have been prevented."

Sparrow also went on to praise the press operators for their passionate efforts to get the press up and running again, along with The Citizen's office staff who stepped up to offer support.

Tentatively, the plan is to deliver the Thursday and Friday editions together to subscribers on Friday morning.

"We'll know more by this afternoon and we'll update the situation then," Sparrow said.
