Premier Christy Clark will be the guest speaker at Friday's Prince George Chamber of Commerce leadership luncheon.
"We have never had the premier speak at a Chamber luncheon in the past," said Chamber CEO Jennifer Brandle-McCall. "We were looking for a chance to meet with her before the election campaign get into full swing, and her office called with this suggestion because it is Small Business Month in British Columbia."
As a service and supply centre for the region, with so many major industrial projects in the works, Clark will talk about those opportunities for small businesses. Liquid natural gas prospects and her meeting with Alberta premier Alison Redford about the Enbridge Northern Gateway Pipeline will also be on the table.
"Those were topics she felt, and we agreed, are important to address because of how they pertain to the overall north, and Prince George's place as a leadership community in northern affairs," said Brandle-McCall.
Leadership luncheon speakers are open to anyone from the public. These events cost Chamber members $30 and prospective members $35. It is the first time since becoming premier of B.C. that the public has had an open opportunity to interact with Clark, who usually comes to Prince George on specific business.
Justice Minister and Attorney General Shirley Bond, who was the scheduled speaker Friday, has moved her Chamber lunch guest speaking date to Oct. 15, when her themes are expected to be "recognizing leadership in the business community" and "diversity in the workplace" among other key points.
Before the end of October the Chamber is hoping to host Naomi Yamamoto, the Minister of State for Small Business.
