MINI CUP: Youth soccer players from the qathet region had a blast at the Mini World Cup 2024, in Port Alberni, from April 27 and April 28, hosted by Alberni Athletics Soccer Club. Enthusiastic players, coaches and volunteers ferried back home from Little River Terminal in Comox last Sunday evening.

Alberni Athletics Soccer Club out of Port Alberni hosted Mini World Cup 2024 on Saturday, April 27, and Sunday, April 28.

The non-competitive tournament brought together 985 youth  boys and girls soccer players onto the field, including teams from the qathet region.

"Powell River Youth Soccer Association brought 13 teams over to Port Alberni, representing 13 different countries," said U10 boys soccer coach Todd Cross.

For Cross this was his third year at the Mini World Cup.

"The atmosphere at the mini world cup is always amazing and for a lot of the kids, this is the first opportunity to play games against out-of-town teams," added Cross.
