Wasn't there a major earthquake?
And if I looked on page 7 of the world news I could have read about it.
But I am sure the readers of the Citizen would rather have been informed about an elementary school rally against Stephen Harper, or perhaps that the PG Conservatives were going to the polls, or that a suspected gang member was denied bail (now that is news).
So after getting my paper and finding page 7 I started to read about the fifth largest recorded earthquake and tsunami and the effects it had on Japan.
As I am reading the story I couldn't help wonder why there was so little information (and only one picture). This is a major disaster. The effect on the economy and the environment will be enormous.
But what really disappointed me was the lack of compassion shown by the publishers of this edition of The Citizen.
On the same page as this story of devastation of northeastern Japan is an advertisement from a Japanese car manufacturer.
Very little research was needed to learn that five million Japanese auto workers are now out of work and that several plants of that car manufacturer whose advertisement you chose to print were damaged or destroyed.
And this from a paper that prides itself on it's award winning reporting.
A very disappointed subscriber.
