The last poll question asked who is Canada's newsmaker of the year?
There were a couple of options that were in a tight race but Rob Ford took it with 38 per cent of the vote for a total of 223 votes.
The armed forces veterans came close with 30 per cent of the vote for a total of 181 votes.
Jian Ghomeshi took 19 per cent of the vote with a total of 114 votes, while Kevin Vickers took 12 per cent of the vote for a total of 69 votes. Tina Fontaine trailed at one per cent of the vote for a total of seven votes. That's a total of 594 votes.
Those picks are different from what editors and news directors surveyed by The Canadian Press picked. Cpl. Nathan Cirillo and Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent were chosen as Canada's newsmakers of the year with 23 of 85 votes. Ghomeshi and Vickers were tied at 13 votes each while Rob Ford, CP's 2013 newsmaker of the year, took 12 votes. Pierre Karl Peladeau took 10 votes. Fourteen votes went to other choices, including The Citizen's pick, which went to Canada's armed forces veterans.
The Citizen's new poll question asks readers to weigh in to see who or what is the local newsmaker of the year.
