After a recent dog poisoning, Prince George RCMP are calling on the public for help.
Police say last Wednesday, a heritage-area dog owner called about the suspicious canine death.
RCMP believe that the dog died after someone threw meat laced with poison into the yard of a home on North Tabor Boulevard.
Rat poison was later determined to be the cause of death.
At this point, the Saturday release said, police have no suspects or witnesses and "have no reason to believe that anyone disliked the dog or the owner."
While no other reports of suspicious animal deaths have been made to police, RCMP note there is some chatter on social media and news sites of similar dog deaths or near deaths in the community.
So, RCMP are warning dog owners and suggesting precautions: like regularly surveying yards, keeping gates locked, mending fences, bringing pets inside when possible and monitoring them closely when outdoors.
Reports of animal cruelty can be made to the Prince George RCMP at 250-561-3300 or to the BC Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BC SPCA) at 1-855-622-7722.
