Police are hunting for two men who tried to use more than 20 counterfeit $20 bills at Wal-Mart.
On Dec. 2, around 5 p.m., staff at the store called police after two men approached the checkout with more than $1,000 in merchandise and attempted to pay using a mix of real and counterfeit bills.
When a staff member called the store manager over, the two men fled the store and ran across the parking lot where it is believed they met two other men. The suspects were gone by the time police arrived.
Police seized the counterfeit bills, and they are clearly counterfeits - likely photo copies. All the bills had the same serial number.
The first suspect is described as a man 19 or 20 years old, approximately five-foot-ten, medium build with short brown hair. He was wearing a black jacket with gray sleeves, black jeans and was carrying a camouflage backpack.
The second suspect was also 19 to 20 years old, approximately five-foot-ten with medium build. He was wearing a black beanie-type hat, white and black jacket and blue jeans.
Police have received several other reports of counterfeit bills circulating in Prince George.
Anyone with any information about either suspect is asked to call Prince George RCMP at 250-561-3300 or Crime Stoppers 1-800-222-TIPS(8477). Tips can also be made online at www.pgcrimestoppers.bc.ca or texted to CRIMES using "pgtips."
