Prince George RCMP are asking for the public's help in solving a decade-old homicide.
On March 26, 2007, the body of Shawn Halikowski, 44, was found near Hofferkamp Road and despite an extensive investigation, RCMP said they are still searching for answers.
They also believe there are people who may be able to help provide those answers and are asking them to step forward.
"Shawn spent time with several people on March 11th and investigators believe that one or more of these people may have information about his death," RCMP said Thursday.
Described by police as "a well-loved and determined man," Halikowski was raised in Prince George. He had moved away to go to university and earn a masters degree. The married father of a baby girl had worked for the City of Surrey before returning to Prince George in 2004 for family help during an illness.
The remains of a body later determined to be Halikowski were found in a sandy clearing about one-and-a-half kilometres along Hofferkamp Road and towards the cutbanks. By then, he had been missing for about two weeks.
Police have remained tight-lipped about what was found and what had led them to conclude it was a homicide. But they did say it appeared he had died elsewhere and his body was then transported to the site where it was found.
Described as five-foot-six and 200 pounds, with brown eyes and red hair, he wore reading glasses and was last seen wearing jeans and a black leather jacket.
