A man suspected of stealing mail from an apartment building has been charged.

Jordan Allan Lalonde, 27, faces counts of possessing stolen property and breaching probation.

While in the process of investigating another matter, RCMP said they noticed Lalonde standing in the middle of Central Street West at 2 a.m. last Tuesday.

Familiar with Lalonde from previous dealings, RCMP detained him and when he was asked to show them what was in his pockets, he pulled out several pieces of mail that recently went missing from the building on Union Street. They also found some identification from a wallet stolen last April.

The incident is separate from one on March 10 at a 15th Avenue apartment for which charges against two people remain pending.

Lalonde has a lengthy criminal record and, in December 2019, was sentenced to 18 months probation for theft $5,000 or under, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and uttering threats.

He has since been released from custody in relation to the latest arrest with a date to appear in court next month.
