Prince George RCMP deployed a tracking dog to apprehend two men suspected of committing a robbery in the Westwood Drive area shortly after midnight Friday.
Police were called to the scene at 12:30 a.m. and within minutes spotted two men matching the description of the suspects, heading into the wooded area between Highway 97 and the Family YMCA on Massey Boulevard, Prince George RCMP Cst. Craig Douglass said in a release.
The police dog, Astro, and his handler were called in and soon located the two who Douglass said continued to try to flee despite warnings and consequently suffered minor bite wounds before they were taken into custody.
The two are suspected of targeting a 16-year-old youth as he was walking alone along Westwood between Ferry and Massey. The pair walked in opposite directions towards their target, assaulted him and stole his cellphone and wallet containing cash, police allege.
But a witness who police say saw the robbery called the RCMP.
Arrested were a 20-year-old man from Prince George and a 21-year-old man from Mackenzie.
They remained in police custody as of Friday afternoon and investigators will be recommending charges of robbery against both men. Their names were not released.
