An RCMP vehicle on its way to the scene of a motor vehicle accident ended up in a collision of its own on Wednesday afternoon.

Stopped at a red light at Queensway and 17th, the the driver of the fully-marked vehicle activated the lights and sirens, Prince George RCMP Cpl. Craig Douglass said in a press release, and with the crossing traffic stopped, proceeded through the intersection.

But two large trucks in the inside south bound lane shielded the police officer from seeing the driver of a sedan traveling in the south bound curb lane and vice versa.

"The sedan, proceeding through a green light, collided head on with the right, passenger, side of the police vehicle," Douglass said. "It is believed that both vehicles were traveling below the posted speed limit."

The police officer was taken to the University Hospital of Northern BC as a precaution. while sedan's two occupants refused medical treatment and appeared to be shaken, but not injured.

Several witness statement were obtained, Douglass said, and the investigation into this collision continues.

The officer was on the way to the scene of a two-vehicle collision at Carney Street and Massey Boulevard. An SUV ended up on its roof and a sedan against a lamppost but there were reportedly no serious injuries.
