A dangerous driver has been sentenced to two years in jail for ramming a police vehicle while on a wild ride more than a year ago.
Brian William Cooper was also prohibited from driving for five years for the Feb. 13, 2011 incident that began when he was pulled over at in the early morning hours at the intersection of Highway 16 and 97 for an alleged driving infraction.
Before the check could be completed, Cooper took off in the pickup truck he was driving with a passenger alongside and hit another police vehicle near Ferry and Ospika, which had been called to the scene by the first officer.
When mechanical troubles struck, the two abandoned the truck on University Way near UNBC but a police dog tracked them down, finding them in waist-deep snow in a heavily-wooded area a short distance away.
Cooper was also sentenced to six months in jail for taking a vehicle without consent of the owner, two counts of fleeing a police officer and two counts of driving while disqualified under the Motor Vehicle Act.
Cooper was sentenced in Prince George provincial court on Thursday.
