A small plane had to make an emergency landing on a Mackenzie roadside Wednesday.

The pilot of a single engine plane escaped injury Wednesday afternoon after the craft's wing struck a tree while attempting an emergency landing on the Conifex service road in Mackenzie.

The pilot was trying to make the landing after running into engine trouble at about 1,000 feet, said District of Mackenzie chief administrative officer Peeter Weeber.

"Things were going really well until [the plane neared] one tree [that] grew a little closer to the road and he clipped it with a wing and caused a crash," Weeber said. "But he darn near landed it."

The crash occurred at about 1:45 p.m. and as of later in the afternoon, investigators from Transport Canada were on their way to the scene, Weeber said.
