PHOTOS: UNBC’s international celebration Globalu kicks off with opening of a new lounge

Globalu’s purpose is to raise awareness, honour campus cultural diversity

UNBC’s Globalu week-long international celebration has returned to the Prince George campus for its second year.

Not only is the post-secondary celebrating four days of diversity, inclusion and culture, but students will be able to enjoy a brand new space on campus with those ideals in-mind.

The popular international event, which focuses on speakers, dialogue, entertainment, crafts and food kicked off with the grand opening of the new Global Lounge this afternoon (Feb. 24).

The new lounge is located in the Canfor Winter Garden.

The celebratory grand opening of the new Global Lounge took place with International director Leonel, UNBC President and guest speaker Lila Mansour followed by refreshments and music.

The day started with UNBC's Muslim Student Association/Islamic Relief Club who hosted an informal meet and greet to help students learn about the Islam faith and the varied cultural backgrounds associated with Muslims living in the Middle East and East Asia.

Globalu’s purpose is to raise awareness and honour cultural diversity across campus.

Celebrations continued with a musical performance by Persian fusion band Navaz, Henna Tattoos and international student displays of food, dress and more throughout the Winter Garden hallway.

Globalu will continue on campus with events happening each day until Feb. 27.

You can find a full schedule of events on UNBC’s website.
